I was pretty stoked a few weeks ago when I was contacted out of the blue and asked to teach a class for a bridal shower!!! The host was so sweet and I was excited to be a part of the festivities. And the festivities were very beautiful:
I paired the plate with a lovely Marlborough, New Zealand sauvignon blanc; a Provence, France rosé; and a Santa Maria Valley pinot noir. The rosé proved most verstile but the ladies prefered the sauvignon blanc. The pinot noir did well especially with the gouda.
The favorites on this plate were the triple cream (of course) and the sheep cheese – go sheep!!! The surprising crowd pleaser on this plate was Cacique’s Ranchero Queso Fresco I used to illustrate a fresh cheese. I generally use a fromage blanc but I was afraid that it would not hold up well in the heat. The Ranchero Queso Fresco was milky but saltier than a fromage blanc and had a pleasant texture (slightly sandy).
And unusually, the blue cheese was gone on almost all the plates – St. Agur converts more non blue eaters! I love it! So don’t be afraid to put blues on your cheese boards – especially decadent double creams!
